Chapter 7

They started arriving Friday morning. David had used his private jet to cart everyone to the island including her mother and had rented enough cars to transport everyone. Abby was at the church when they came and Pastor David and Missionary hurried out to hug her and expressed how happy they were that she was going to officially be a part of their family.

Her smile faltered as she looked over their shoulders to see her mother. She was with David and the rest of the people from their church back home. Her mother was still beautiful but misery had settled on her face and she looked older than her years. She was dressed in a nice pants suit and her long hair was caught in a jeweled clip. She looked out of place.

David brought her over. “Darling your mother said she enjoyed the plane ride and I told her that we will have to take her on several more.” Abby looked at him gratefully. Bless his soul; he was trying to make the best of an uncomfortable situation.

“Abigail you look well,” Elaine Walters said grudgingly as her daughter hugged her hesitantly. “And what a wonderful man you are marrying!” her expression changed as she turned to look at David. “Imagine flying us here in his private jet!”

“Yes he is,” Abby agreed glancing at David with slight amusement.

“Baby why don’t you allow me to show your mother some of the work we are doing here and go and get Mom and Dad up to speed about the children’s home.” David suggested taking Elaine’s arm.

“Thanks David,” Abby went over and kissed him full on the lips, not caring who was looking. “I love you so much.”

“You don’t play fair,” he whispered against her mouth.

“I know,” she whispered back wriggling out of his arms and going over to his parents who were looking on with a proud expression on their faces.

“My dear you have made us very happy.” Missionary Ellen linked arms with her as they went inside the church.

The members greeted them enthusiastically and they were offered refreshments. Deacon Williams captured Pastor David and led him around the building, getting him acquainted with the things that were done. The ladies were outside around the wooden table where there was a mountain of ground produce that had been brought by for the wedding. They had shooed away Abby telling her that her help was not needed and as she was getting married tomorrow she surely needed her rest.

The wedding planner Mabel had been busily decorating the conference room at the hotel and was coming over later to decorate the church.

David took them to the children’s home and Pastor David met and spoke with Mrs. Hill promising her that they would not be forgotten when they left.

It was quite late when they piled into the cars that David had rented and went back to the hotel. David had booked a room there for the night so Abby was going to be at the house by herself.
